Group 5 Substation Maintenance and Safety
10:00 AM – Substation Battery Maintenance and Safety- This course will review different types of batteries and their various applications. It will also cover the different failure modes batteries can experience and what causes them. This course will cover battery maintenance and safety. It will explain the NERC requirements as well as the IEEE recommendations. This course will then cover different types of tests that can be performed on batteries. These tests include visual inspection, float voltage measurements, float current measurements, ripple current measurements, specific gravity measurements, temperature measurements, discharge testing, ohmic testing and strap resistance measurements. It will explain how these tests are performed and what they indicate. This course will also review how to read and interpret ohmic data.
